Sunlight glistens on the waves rolling in
Sea spray taste on our lips
Catch our breath, climb grey granite cliffs
Glimpse bobbing sailing skiffs
Ocean breeze, memories
Flooding back over you and me
This place is a dream catcher
A dream catcher blue
This place is a dream catcher
A dream catcher true
This place is a dream catcher
A dream catcher you
Seabirds, calling in the sky overhead
Timeless cries, haunt the air
Ridge soaring masters they wheel ‘n glide
Oh to feel the way they fly
Ocean breeze…
Child-like, delight in this theatre of wild
White horses roam in the bay
Sunset sky, paints the land and the sea
In this Eden we’re innocent and free
Ocean breeze…
It’s so simple
This is where to live, live, live
It’s so simple
Oh, this is where to give
Ocean breeze… -

Oh Lundy Isle

We sailed ‘cross to Lundy Isle
On the MS Oldenburg
To find old Benson’s smuggling cave
See clown faced Puffin birds
Out from the sea the Island rose
Seagulls wheel they’re crying out
Of unforgiving granite cliffs
As we sail over sunken ships
Oh Lundy Isle, Lundy Isle
Three miles long, half a mile wide
Ten miles from Devon’s coast you stride
We keep coming back, to Lundy Isle
We came upon The Old Light
Built high on-the western side
But often in-the clouds it stood
And still the sailors died
We hear the bells, St Helena’s church
Ring for those that live here still
Drifting out across the Isle
Content they smile in their exile
Oh Lundy Isle, Lundy Isle…
We’ll laugh playing charades
in Marisco Tavern and then
Torch-lit paths winding back to where we lie
‘Cause the lights go out after midnight
The wind’nd sea be our good night lullaby
Oh Lundy Isle, Lundy Isle…
We keep coming back, to Lundy Isle

3. Last Voyage Of The Nightingale
Last Voyage Of The Nightingale
The Last Voyage of The Nightingale

Captain Lancey said Benson, my old brigantine sail
The Nightingale is her name
Insured so well, ‘gainst misfortune’s hell
In case there’s need to claim
T’was a warm and windy, June Tuesday
In seventeen fifty two
From near Appledore, Nightingale left the shore
With convicts silk lace and crew
With keen weather eyes, Lancey surveyed the sky
said the swell was getting too large
So in Lundy’s lee, they stayed that night
But by morn her draft, was half as light
They’ll drink jars and jars in their taverns and bars
And sing all their woes to right
Recite big fish stories of past won glories
New legends are made ev’ry mid-night
But the holy grail, for shipwreck tales
Is the last voyage of, the Nightingale
Lancey ordered the boat, hoisted outboard
Then a hull hole, was bored deep below
Tarred oakum was lit, where the cargo once fit
Smoke billowed with a fiery glow
The sky after noon, turned red far too soon
He-roared convicts, what’s your game?
But he knew darn well ‘twas to no avail
On-the Last Voyage of, the Nightingale
Sail ahoy out there, the lookout cried
Charming Nancy was her name
Her Captain turned pale, at the stricken Nightingale
Listing hard to port in flames
He rescued the crew and the convicts too
They swore upon their souls
That an act of God, that day was to blame
While Benson tallied-up, his insurance claim
They’ll drink jars and jars in their taverns and bars
……
With its convict slaves and its smuggling caves
Lundy Isle was refuge no more
Countless jars of ale, boastful sailor’s tales
Spilled secrets of, the Nightingale
Clung Lancey to his faith in Benson
He would not turn King’s evidence
He would not reveal, what he had to conceal
‘cause Benson would plan his defense
But at ex’cution dock, where Captain Kidd once rocked
He kicked to the Marshal dance
On a rope too short, to kill too soon
While the crowd sang and danced to a drunken tune
They’ll drink jars and jars in their taverns and bars

Lost upon the deep
Beneath the waves we gently sleep
Along the coast still see our ghostly breath
And as the waves pound over rocks
above our restless feet
The echo of a bell rings out - abandon ship
We had sailed the Jenny through many a storm
Kept dry our hold of iv’ry and gold
But in a cove not named, rocks tore through wood
Decks awash we laboured, did all that we could
Lost upon the deep…
Now lifebelts adorn the tavern walls
Like window views to the lost at sea
Oh feel their panic, oh hear their cries
Nearby the unknown sailor lies
Lost upon the deep…
There is still some open window space
Sirens call, from the tavern walls
And if you turn your head, towards the sea
You may catch a glimpse of long lost me
At Jenny’s cove -

William de Marisco is my name
And I’ve reigned Lundy’s shores for many a year
Rugged this place I rule land and sea
None shall pass without payment to me
Payment to me
I’m Henry the third and my kingdom’s come
With drums and pikes I’ll settle scores
Those who would plot will live in fear
My soldiers boots ever matching near
But still I can hear
You’ll never catch me out on wild Lundy
where sheer granite cliffs are my castle walls
This is my kingdom I rule land and sea
In the Bristol channel I am king of Lundy
Seven long years I’ve been on the run
The tonnes I’ve plundered sailed from every sun
Then one day as my look-outs slept
We were captured by soldiers up the cliffs they’d crept,
Up the cliffs they’d crept
Now long I’ve been dead by a dreadful fate
Hate didn’t die on the hangman’s noose
Then four horses drew me apart
My days were over with still beating heart
Still beating heart
Well they did catch me out on wild Lundy
where sheer granite cliffs where my castle walls
That was my kingdom I ruled land and sea
In the Bristol channel I was king of Lundy
The castle and tavern bear Mariscos name
Well that’s my lineage, I’ll retain my claim
Well they did catch me…

(Note - verse 1 is a quote from James Revel, “The Unhappy Sufferer” published 1780)
Down to the harbor I was took again
On board of ship bound with an iron chain
Which I was forced to wear both night and day
For fear of from the sloop I should run away
Sixty days spared I was brought ashore
Lundy Isle just one day out no more
To the castle keep we had there to sleep
Toil sunrise to sunset stone walls to heap
And Benson’s cave
Where us convicts slaved
Hide his bootleg goods from prying eyes
Cos profit in tobacco lies
Smuggling it into old England
Slaved three long years with the mainland in sight
But we made our plans then one moonlet night
Seven crept down to where the longboat was moored
We rowed ‘cross to Hartland Point, escaped ashore
And Benson’s cave…
And those of us who could write
Left their marks in the dark
Engraved on the walls
As history’s shadow falls
In Benson’s…
And Benson’s cave -

There’s a crying in the wind
There’s a moaning in the heather
There is sadness in the heath
There is sighing in the weather
The grass is waving at her feet
Her skirt is blowing in the wind
Her hair is streaming round her neck
There is torture in her mind
Her shawl caught all about her
Barefoot and wild she stands
Spirit of the moorland heaths is she
The girl with the roughened hands
She thinks of her love of long ago
Who passed away and left her
He left when mist fell o’er the moor
And went from her life forever
Like her he was with raven hair
Wild rugged and strong
A moorland lad, born to be
And should have lived there long
They played on windy days
and when mist shrouded the moor
In summer sun they laughed with glee
And ran to the weathered tor
But now she stands there all alone
Comfortless for ever
There will always be the saddened heath
And a sighing in the weather
Her shawl caught all about her
Barefoot and wild she stands
Spirit of the moorland heaths is she
The girl with the roughened hands

Sun beams playing on my window sill
Reminds me of where we’ve been
Silky white sands of Siesta Key still calling me
We lay there naked on the virgin sands
Drying in the breeze
The cool blue ocean breathing in and out
Our bodies rise in sympathy
Siesta Key unlocked the treasure chest
Hidden on Crescent beach
That’s where I learned your love was within my reach
Siesta Key brings back memories
Our footprints in the sand
That’s where they merged at sunset on the strand
Hair curls glisten on your smiling face
Seashell close to your ear
That shell phone call from Siesta Key still rings for me
I answer it in-the dead of night
Hear the breathing waves at the key
Reaching out still finds you lying next to me
Siesta Key unlocked the treasure chest…
Do do do….
We lay there naked on the virgin sands
Drying in the breeze
The cool blue ocean breathing in and out
Our bodies rise in sympathy
Siesta Key unlocked the treasure chest… -

Puffins, watching puffins
Painted faces, tear drop eyes
Scan the skies
Digging, now the’re, digging
Burrow down, through the earth
For all tey're worth
Where in the world
Can you see such clowns
So seriously going about their
lives up-side down
Under ground
Deadpan, oh so deadpan
Big orange feet, with matching beaks
Look so chic
Where in the world
did they get such looks
So smartly made up for
kids colouring books
Or song hooks
Fishing, they’ve been fishing
Beaks crammed with eels, so surreal
Puffling meals
Oh where in the world...
And where in the world...
Puffins, love those Puffins -

I've been looking out so long
Looking in all the wrong places
Searching high and low for you
In all those other lonely faces
Shooting star
You’re my, shooting star
I make a wish, every time I see you
That your smile means all my dreams will come true
But then you take a different track
Coming back for those others who think so too
Shooting star
You’re my, shooting star
And if you ever fall to Earth
Need to find out what your friends are worth
I’m here, my
Shooting star
You’re my shooting star
Shooting star
You’re my shooting star -

Candle light flickers as the spirits come to call
Quiet whispers in the leaves, shadows dancing on your wall
Takes me to a place more alive than I’ve ever been
If you know the place I speak of then you’ll know the spirits within
Spirits floating all around, waiting to be found
Hear them in the restless breeze and raindrops on the ground
And the mischief shining in your eyes and the laughter we have found
take me distant places far and wide to the spirits all around
Wood smoke scents the evening to the crackling sound of flames
Your eyes catch the moon light as you turn and call my name
Oh, ripples on the water as their breath begins to show
Leaves impressions in your mind, where they’ll end you’ll never know
Spirits floating all around, waiting to be found…
Take my hand and stay a while, what do you feel and see?
Oh I don’t know, where they go, but they’re back when you’re with me
Spirits floating all around, waiting to be found…
Candle light flickers as the spirits come to call
Quiet whispers in the leaves, shadows dancing on your wall -

Look up at the man in the moon
Surrounded by a diamond sky
But below a blue and white pearl catches his eye
Scattered 'cross a ribbon of black
A string of Pearls are fading out
But below a blue and white pearl is still holding out
And the man in the moon cries any time soon
we’re gonna wake and know what’s fake
In all these pearls in the sky only one of them holds you and I
See our mother of pearl’s iridescent swirls with her blue & white cloudy face
So alone in the darkness waiting for her first embrace
And the girl on the ballroom floor
Spins round in a diamond sky
While the man in the moon circles round trying to catch her eye
And there’s a red face looking on
He's breathless to join the dance
But knowing he can’t cut in he’s already lost his chance
And the man in the moon cries any time soon…
We’re dancing with a blue and white pearl
Oh such a beautiful world
Dancing with a blue and white pearl
Oh such a beautiful world
