Time was, we went the way of the sheltered caves
Scrambling over cols and corries through rock strewn ways
In far flung moors and streams, we laughed and played
But times, were changing in those care-free days
Time was, the Caha mountains divided our hearts
Then Black ’47 drove us further apart
The rain kept falling down stranding horse and cart
Friends leave for the new world, to make a fresh start
Across Bealach Scairte, I followed my heart
To my sweet Roe-sheen in Adrigole
But she held me at bay until I could say
Which flower, I’d caress next to my chest
Time was, she lived in the shadow of Hungry Hill
Collecting seaweed to ward off, hunger’s ills
Until they built a famine road over the pass
Caha sons and daughters could court at last
Across Bealach Scairte, I followed my heart
To my sweet Roe-sheen in Adrigole
But she held me at bay until I could say
Which flower I’d caress, next to my chest
At last I cried out to her, “my sweet-scented rose”
At last she whispered “yes” – now you’ve prop’ly proposed!
Across Bealach Scairte, I followed my heart
To my sweet Roe-sheen in Adrigole
There I hold her at night and gently delight
In-my flower caressed, next to my chest

Storm clouds gath'rin' more often these days
Heads in the sand? – oh yeah, we’ll be ok
It’ll blow over soon, sunbath on the moon
Gaze back in wonder - hm Major Tom’s tune
He'll be here soon
Will we stagger and stumble
Gamble and grumble
Fiddle in the rubble of Rome
Will we wake-up in time, before the last line
Of our history’s set down in stone
And the greens and the golds
So frajile and old, the life that teems in the sea
Bleached skeleton white
Distressed by the fight
Warm currents seduce you and me
From what we see
And the blues and the greys
in each spreading wave
Foam rabid on the ebbing tide
From the whales to the plankton
There's no holy sanctum
From the debris we’re casting aside
The devil’s been untied
Wind starts blowing, it twists and it turns
Funnels straight down to old Tommy’s home
He dives for cover as it’s torn to shreds
Thinking he was lucky, his life's still ahead
That's what he read
Will we stagger and stumble
Gamble and grumble
Fiddle in the rubble of Rome
Will we wake-up in time, before the last line
Of our history’s set down in stone
And the greens and the golds
So fragile and old, the life that teems in the sea
Bleached skeleton white
Distressed by the fight
Warm currents seduce you and me
From what we see
Yeah we're hooked on acid
Choked down by the gasses
That spew from wealthy and few
The face-mask cities that everyone pities
Invades our TV news
It’s our kids that loose

I never knew, you Grandma
You died, when I was only three
But clearing out, my dad’s old things
You reached ‘cross the years, to me
And suddenly, suddenly (pause)
I was sitting there at your knee
I turned your scrapbook pages
War-torn years, went marching by
Two brothers fell in battle
Your words betray tearful eyes
So young to die, so young to die
Standing at the old graves, where they lie
Sitting there at your knee sharing
All, your memories
You showed me a time gone by
you showed me how they’d lived
And died - they’ll live on in me
A photo shows you cradling
a bundle, that was me
Though I’ll never hear your voice
Your smile was just for me
And suddenly, suddenly (pause)
I’m sitting there at your knee
Thumbed faded yellow pages
Treasured poems copied lovingly
Now, “The Moving Finger writes…”
Means so much more to me
With you I sigh, with you I sigh
The moving finger’s moved past you and I
Sitting there at your knee sharing
All, your memories
You showed me a time gone by
You showed me how, you’d laughed
And cried in your reverie
I never knew you grandma... -

Where is your playmate, my little one, playfull one
What is he up to, my little one there?
Where has he gone now, my little one, joyful one
What is he up to my little one fair?
You tottered out the room, holding tail of Tabby cat
Now he’s king of your high chair, well imagine that!
Now you are giggling, my little one, funny one
Now you’ve gone quiet, my little one rare
Now there is movement, my little one, noisy one
What are you up to my little one fair
I peeked around the corner, made sure that you’re all right
You had opened up the cupboard, crawled in out of sight
These times of joy, I’ll cherish for ever
These times of fun, such innocence and pleasure
Outside, worlds may collide
But inside our heaven survives
Now it is bath time, my little one, eager one
An ocean awaits you, my little one fair
Now you are splashing, my little one, soapy one
Squeals of delight from my little one bare G
Yellow ducks, bobbing round you, on seas of bubbling white
And now’s come the time, to hug you goodnight
These times of joy, I’ll cherish for ever
These times of fun, such innocence and pleasure
Outside, worlds may collide
But inside our heaven survives
Good night! -

You Make My Heart Beat

You found an empty place abandoned long ago
Swept out the tumble weed and the piled-up snow
Bestowed your healing touch and now I know, your love
Cos you’re in my blood stream, yeah you’re in my blood stream
And you make my heart beat, yeah you make my heart beat
The chambers of my heart are where you dwell
That’s where you’ve wrought your magic, worked-up your spell
You brought me back to life before I fell, too far
Oh you’re in my blood stream…
There are places I still can’t go
There are faces I try to forget
You’re my cure for so many past regrets
Cos you’re in my blood stream…
You’re in my blood stream… -

The crowd holds their breath
Expectation fills the air
The ice arena waits
A young girl’s standing there
Alone
Gossamer blue dress
Long sculptured legs
Concentrating eyes closed
She prepares the woven threads
To come
Music starts, time stands still
Skate for your life
Glide ‘cross the ice
Blades cutting through, to hold you
Arms circle round
Spin through the air
Tears in our eyes
Watching you fly, Evgenia
The crowd stands and cheers
To her graceful moves
One flows to the next
Sign writing grooves
Her trade-mark
Music builds, time stands still
Skate for your life…
Step by step her alchemy
From the hours and the pain
She weaves her tapestry
Skate for your life… -
7. Our World
Our World
Our world

Our world
Is spinning slowly
Through time and space
While humans’ race
Making plans
Our sons and daughters
Complete the chain
Where dreamers reign
And the world keeps turning round
no matter what, we say
or what, we do
Generations come and go but
that’s just me and that’s just you
Golden years
Of children laughing
Bright tears of pride
Cloud parents’ eyes
Whirling round
Just holding on to
The lives we lead
While our world bleeds
And the world keeps turning round
no matter what, we say
or what, we do
Generations come and go but
that’s just me and that’s just you
Could be forever
If we care enough
Could be forever
If we love and care enough
Could be forever
If we care enough
Could be forever
If we love and care enough
For our world -

I Wish You Were Waiting For Me
Saw you sitting at Artesian’s bar
Your lips moistened with red Merlot
In a daring black dress and gleaming pearls
Eyes bright, ready to go somewhere
Waitin’, Waitin’ for someone
I wish you were waitin’ for me
I wish you were waitin’ for me
Glancing at your watch I saw you wonder
Where in the world, could he be?
As you sipped your wine and looked around you
Your eyes passed right, over me, you where
Waitin’, Waitin’ for someone
I wish you were waitin’ for me…
When you saw him you broke into a smile
Eyes shining bright, as your pearls
Then you stood and walked out hand in hand
While I faded back to, nether land, I was
Waitin’, Waitin’ for someone…
I wish you were waitin’ for me… -
9. Rehab Baby

Rehab Baby

Darlin’ do you remember, the night we met
I was dozing on that Greyhound bus when
you got on dripping wet
A Chicago cloud burst hadn’t
dampened your smile,
My ol’ guitar, made room for you
As we sped through country miles
Found it so easy, chatting with you
Towns fell behind us, as we
swapped points of view
I didn’t like Presley,
You didn’t like Garth Brooks
Playfully you punched my arm
when I said, I love your looks
I’d been a drifter singing dead end bars
Raising dollars for travel & the end of a jar
Didn’t believe in soul mates
‘ till that night that I met you
You were my rehab baby
You pulled me though
You stayed on that bus with me
as we swept past your town
You said you’d been meaning to leave
but just hadn’t got around, to it
The freedom of the open road
Is what you’d always longed to feel
The restless pull of wanderlust
satisfied by humming wheels
I’d been a drifter singing dead end bars…
Any Greyhound bus will do, my love
If you don’t know where, you’re going
Sometimes, I guess, you just have to get lost
Before you know, where you’re heading
I’d been a drifter singing dead end bars… -

T’was the time of the Roundheads
T’was the time of Cavaliers
Suspicion & confusion
reigned for many long years
Enter Matthew Hopkins
The witch finder general
So heartless, he became notoriously famed
And for twenty shillings a town
He’d hunt your witches down
Inconvenient souls would be named
Oh the shame
T’was the wrong time to live
T’was the wrong place to be
In Manningtree it started,
Lizzy Clarke was her name
Oh John Rivot the tailor
What have you begun, with the
Poor old crippled maid that you blamed
She was deprived for a week
Of much needed sleep
‘till she confessed to the word that he’d framed
Oh-oh the shame
And you were damned if you did
Damned if you didn’t
Drown in the swimming test
Sink to the bottom, float to the top
Swing for the witch finder’s quest
(pause) He’ll never rest
T’was the opening of the flood gates
T’was the hanging of many innocents
No one will take pity,
if you find yourself blamed
The Witch finder general
He’ll come around and test you
For familiars of evil he thought that you’d tamed
There’d be no turning back
Along the witch hunter’s track
That he’d laid to make his false claims
Oh oh the shame
And you were damned if you did…
So hide your birth marks
Say your Lord’s Prayer well
Or you’ll be flung in jail
Where none will mourn your fate
Wear the noose to hell’s gate
No matter how loudly you wail
And you were damned if you did… -

Rapa Nui's Easter island
Echoes empty in the breeze
Remember me, remember me
It's a tight rope balance that,
King Mutua must survive
How the Rapa Nui's thousands could,
all be kept alive
And as he viewed with horror
Dying canopies of green
He bowed to Moai statues so,
the gods would intervene
Slow the rise, swift the fall
and all before his throne
Bowed down before him on the ground
A graveyard of splintered bones
When one strong heart, stood alone
swaying gently in the breeze
Awaiting final judgment day
Show wisdom sire please, sire please
When you lose your balance start,
creaking at the seams
All the fallen trees confirm
your nightmare dreams
But when you hit rock bottom start,
decaying from within
All the fallen trees one day,
may start to rise again
Haunted Moai statues still,
Gaze out across the sea
Searching the horizon for,
Those not blind to see
And In their silent presence they,
cry out loud and clear
Beware the path that takes you to,
The old ones lying here, lying here
When you lose your balance start… -
12. The End Of The World
The End Of The World
The End Of The World
©2019 Andy LeFevre & Simon Wright
Salt sea fresh from its ocean
Re-awakens me
There’s nobody here, at the end of the world
Nowhere is more free
Steep bluffs no place for the living
But that’s just fine with me
There’s nobody here, at the end of the world
No body but me
Back in the real world
You seek my confession
With a finger gun held up to my head.
Your eyes flash as you wield your aggression
You twist each word, that I’ve said
Two islands fill my horizon
Sentinels protecting me
There’s nothing you’ll steal, at the end of the world
‘Cos here it’s all free
Back in the real world…
Sentinels can never be broken
They’re now part of me
There’s no pain I’ll feel, at the end of the world
Cos here it’s just me
Here it’s just me
